BORDER CROSSING
INFORMATION
Traveling
to and from Canada
There are five international border
crossings between the United States and Canada in Whatcom
County. The Point Roberts, Sumas. Pacific Highway and The
Peace Arch crossings are open 24 hours a day. The Lynden crossing
is open from 8 a.m. to midnight.
Identification Requirements
At this time a birth certificate or passport
is required. Identification for minor children will be required
and proof that they are traveling with parents consent if
they are not your children.
Vehicle Requirements
Seat belts are required in all Canadian
provinces. Have available the vehicle registration and proof
of registration. Automobiles imported into the United States
must conform to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emission
requirements and the Department of Transportation (DOT) safety,
bumper, and theft-prevention standards.
Canadian Restrictions
No handguns may be taken into Canada.
Hunters may take rifles and shotguns and 200 rounds of ammunition
per person and will need a provincial hunting license. Pets
may need special documentation to cross the border. Dogs require
a current rabies vaccination certificate. US citizens that
have been arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) will
not be allowed into Canada.
Border Cameras
Both North and Southbound Video Cameras
at the U.S/Canadian border are located in Blaine. They offer
views of I-5 and Highway 543 border crossings. The Northbound
camera is updated every two minutes. The Southbound camera
is updated continuously.
